Here at Meadowhead School, we aim to prepare our students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. We want students to be able to make informed choices about their future learning and career pathways.
Career education and guidance is an essential part of this process, so all students get access to a programme of career education, as well as face-to-face guidance from an independent, professionally-qualified careers adviser.
We focus on the following benchmarks to ensure that students receive good career guidance.
- A stable careers programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each student
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experiences of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal guidance

Experience of work
We value experience of work and recognise the importance of young people engaging with employers. This includes work experience, but we also offer opportunities for students to hear from employers in school, such as our Speed Networking event for Y8s, and through industry visits. Our World of Work Week in March showcases our strong employer links and gives students an insight into what work is like and what they need to be successful in the workplace.
Career education
We are keen to see our pupils move into post-16 and post-18 choices that suit their skills, interests, personality and values, and which take account of their motivations. Students are encouraged to consider what is important to them and increase their self-awareness through the career education programme. The programme helps students to develop their personal insight, understanding of the labour market and build career management skills.
Career guidance
Students will get the opportunity to meet with a careers adviser at key decision points in their school life, and at other times if they are in particular need of support. At this time, they can talk about their ideas for the future, explore the range of options after they leave school and plan the steps to achieve their end goal. Students can expect advice and guidance that is personalised, comprehensive and impartial.
Any student can book a one to one appointment with our careers adviser by visiting the careers office or by speaking to their form tutor.
To learn more about the careers programme at school, please see the Careers Policy and the Student Careers Entitlement (menu links to the right).
Finding out more
All our students and their parents have access to Unifrog, a careers and destinations platform where students can explore the options open to them. Instructions to join Unifrog are emailed out to students’ school email accounts. Please contact the careers team at school if your child can’t access the platform
We also recommend Shape your Future Guide to Careers in South Yorkshire which provides useful information on the local labour market and future jobs.
