Maths at KS3
Year 7 Mathematics
In Year 7 students are set from September based on their Primary School Performance.
Students are then reset after October half-term based on a combination of Key Stage 2 results and the results of an inhouse test taken in September.
Students have a further three testing periods during Year 7, in February, April and finally at the end of the year. This allows students the opportunity to move groups several times a year.
We have 4 sets in year 7:
Set 1 and 2 follow the Extension course, focusing mainly on level 5 and 6 work.
Set 3 follow the Core course, focusing mainly on level 4 and 5 work.
Set 4 follow the support course, focusing mainly on level 3 and 4 work.
Year 8 Mathematics
In Year 8 students are set based on their performance in Year 7.
There are three tests during Year 8. This allows students the opportunity to move groups several times a year.
We have 5 sets in year 8:
Set 1 follow the Extension course, focussing mainly on level 6 & 7 work.
Set 2 follow the Extension course, focussing mainly on level 6 work.
Set 3 follow the Core course, focussing mainly on level 5 & 6 work.
Set 4 follow the support course, focussing mainly on level 4 & 5 work.
Set 5 follow the support course, focussing mainly on level 3 & 4 work.
