Meadowhead A Level students celebrate outstanding results
Meadowhead School opened bright and early at 7am on Thursday 14th August to enable students to collect their A Level results. Students nervously opened their envelopes and then, at 8am, were able to log-on to the UCAS application system to confirm university places. Teachers, support staff and the school’s specialist careers adviser, Cerys Evans, were on hand to provide invaluable help and advice. By the end of the day, almost all students had a clear idea of their route for the next year – whether into university, an apprenticeship or employment.
Meadowhead’s overall results were incredibly impressive – with 72.5% of entrants achieving A*- C and a 100% A-E pass rate. The results are a testament to the success of Meadowhead’s distinctive Sixth Form which features high-quality, small group teaching, warm and supportive pastoral care and an enrichment programme that is second-to-none. There were especially strong results from the school’s renowned Art Textiles course with over 80% of students achieving an A or an A*, Spanish where all students achieved a B or above, and Philosophy and Ethics where over 70% of students achieved a B or above.
We are incredibly proud of all the students’ efforts but want to pay special congratulations to the following students for their outstanding results:
Amber Parry will be studying Mathematics with French at the University of Leeds. In languages, Rhian Smith is heading to the University of Sheffield to study Japanese, while Kya Hany is heading to the University of Leeds to study Chinese and Russian. In the humanities, Maddie Brunt is heading to the University of York to begin a course in Heritage Studies and Ethan Lee will study geography at Manchester Metropolitan University.
In art and design, Molly Leeson won a place on Sheffield Hallam’s highly esteemed Fashion Design course, while Naomi Christopher, who achieved an outstanding A* in Art Textiles for her work inspired by Midsummer Night’s Dream, is heading to Sheffield Hallam to study childcare. Drubo Tarafdar won his place on the Product Design course at Nottingham Trent with his outstanding project work this year. Finally, Emily Redfearn and Kate Smith are about to begin studying Graphic Design and Animation respectively at Sheffield Hallam University.
We wish all students all the best for the future and look forward to welcoming them back into school for the presentation of their A Level certificates in December 2014.
