We are now a Halo Code school

Meadowhead School has signed up to the Halo Code which protects the rights of students with afro-textured hair.

A working group of students from the Meadowhead Against Racism action group, led by Lisa OB in Y13, met regularly during the last academic year to develop a new version of the dress code policy that complied with the code. T

his new policy was approved by governors before the summer and is now in place. For example, students are now explicitly permitted to wear protective hair coverings as long as they are in the school colours of black or white and the policy makes direct reference to the permitting of protective hairstyles such as locs, braids and afros.

We thank the student leaders for their excellent work in this area and we know for many students this has been an important and welcome change.

Families with questions about the new policy should contact their child’s year team in the first instance.
