Make A Difference Awards

We are delighted to announce a new awards event: the Make A Difference Awards will take place at the end of the summer term to celebrate achievement at Meadowhead School and Sixth Form.

The awards event will focus on areas of school life not currently covered by our existing celebration events and all awards are connected in some way to the school’s “Make a Difference” motto. The awards will celebrate sporting, artistic, creative, leadership, volunteering and community-orientated achievements.

The awards will celebrate sporting, artistic, creative, leadership, volunteering and community-orientated achievements.

This year, the Awards presentation evening will be held on Wednesday 17th July.  Any current student at Meadowhead is eligible for nomination unless otherwise stated. Nominations can be submitted by students, parents, members of Meadowhead staff, and members of the community.  Please read the categories below and consider the criteria carefully when making your nomination. Achievements should have taken place between July 2023 to July 2024.

To make a nomination, complete the form linked to below by Friday 21st June or use the alternative printed/printable form available from school reception, year offices, the HFWB office, the careers office in R01 and downloadable at the foot of this page. You may submit multiple nominations for different categories. Physical nominations can be handed in at school reception or the careers office (for students/staff). We look forward to receiving your nominations! The awards shortlist will be announced during the week commencing Monday 24th June and invites will be sent to students and their families.

Criteria and guidance

Team of the Year (male)

Awarded to the most successful Meadowhead sports team of the year in terms of performance and achievement. Specify the achievements of the team during the year.

Team of the Year (female)

Awarded to the most successful Meadowhead sports team of the year in terms of performance and achievement. Specify the achievements of the team during the year.

Performance in a Team (male)

Awarded to the highest performing individual within a Meadowhead team activity. Reference should be made to the individual’s quality of performance over a series of fixtures, their commitment to the particular Meadowhead School team, as well as their demonstration of sporting behaviour. 

Performance in a Team (female)

 

Awarded to the highest performing individual within a Meadowhead team activity. Reference should be made to the individual’s quality of performance over a series of fixtures, their commitment to the particular Meadowhead School team, as well as their demonstration of sporting behaviour.

Performance in an Individual Sport (male)

Awarded to the most successful student of the year in an individual sport in terms of performance and achievement. Specify the achievements of the individual during the year. This award does not necessarily need to be through representing the school.

Performance in an Individual Sport (female)

Awarded to the most successful student of the year in an individual sport in terms of performance and achievement. Specify the achievements of the individual during the year. This award does not necessarily need to be through representing the school.

Outstanding Sports Leadership

This award category recognises an individual or a small group of students who have made a great impact in contributing to HFWB and School Sport at Meadowhead School in a coaching, leading, officiating or organisational role.  This could be by achieving excellent results, supporting with activity organisation, engaging new participants, or otherwise making a positive difference to the lives of others at the school. Contributions to a local sports club should be made under the “Community Difference Maker” award.

Junior Phoenix (Y8/Y9)

This award recognises all nominated students who achieved success in their sport beyond school level. The award has three levels of recognition for city/division (bronze), regional (silver) or national (gold) sporting success. Multiple awards can be given for different sports. Please provide any relevant evidence (e.g. photos, copies of certificates, invites).

Senior Phoenix (Y10-Y13)

This award recognises all nominated students who achieved success in their sport beyond school level. The award has three levels of recognition for city/division (bronze), regional (silver) or national (gold) sporting success Multiple awards can be given for different sports. Please provide any relevant evidence (e.g. photos, copies of certificates, invites).

Representative of the Year

Awarded to the representative (e.g. member of parliament or student cabinet) who has made a significant contribution to the school community.

Fundraiser(s) of the Year

Awarded to individual or group who have engaged in successful fundraising for a local or national charity.

Gripple Award for Community Difference Maker(s)

Awarded to individual or group who have made a difference in their local area or community group or organisation.

Social Action and/or Campaign of the Year

Awarded to individual or group who have brought about a change in policy, practice or understanding in school or beyond.

Outstanding Contribution to a society or after-school group

Awarded to individual or group of students who have significantly contributed to a (non-sporting) club, society or action group.

Society, Club or After-School Group of the Year

Awarded to the (non-sporting) student group that has had the most success during this academic year. This could be through expanded participation, successful output or local/regional recognition.

Outstanding new text or artwork (Y7-Y9)

Awarded to the individual artist or writer has created an outstanding piece of artwork or text during the academic year.

Outstanding new text or artwork (Y10-Y13)

Awarded to the individual artist or writer has created an outstanding piece of artwork or text during the academic year.

Outstanding performance in dance, drama or music (male)

Awarded to the individual for an outstanding single performance in dance, drama or music. The name of the text/dance/piece should be included in the nomination. Where the performance was not part of a Meadowhead event, a recording or further details should be provided.

Outstanding performance in dance, drama or music (female)

Awarded to the individual for an outstanding single performance in dance, drama or music. The name of the text/dance/piece should be included in the nomination. Where the performance was not part of a Meadowhead event, a recording or further details should be provided.

Outstanding group performance in dance, drama or music

Awarded to the pair or group for the outstanding performance during the academic year. Where the performance was not part of a Meadowhead event, a recording or further details should be provided.

Outstanding contribution to dance, drama or music

This award category recognises an individual or a small group of students who have made a great impact in contributing to drama, dance and music at Meadowhead School beyond their role as a performer. This could be by participation in a leadership role with younger students (e.g. during a school production), as a director/choreographer or through contribution to production.

 

It is also intended that Duke of Edinburgh award certificates will be presented at this event in future years.
