Spotlight on Alumni
We were delighted to welcome former student, Matt Richards who presented the GCSE Certificate Evening at the end of November.
Matt now runs one of the largest TV production companies in the north of England. Air TV is the award-winning company behind a string of hit shows including Helicopter ER, Bangers & Cash, 999 Rescue Squad, Warplane Workshop and Derelict Rescue. Their shows are on air around the world.
Matt previously worked for the BBC as a news reporter and presenter and has worked in Australia, Africa and the Middle East – as well as in locations across the UK. He also runs the Apex Challenge, a national outdoor adventure charity providing adventure activities for Scout and Guide groups.
Matt was a student at Meadowhead School between 1991 and 1996 and has fond memories of being involved in school productions, a range of sports clubs, and writing articles for the school newsletter, The Phoenix. He’s passionate about championing creativity and inspiring others to make the most of their talents in creative industries.
After leaving Meadowhead, he went on to do A levels at Sheffield College before studying journalism at The University of Leeds.
He was delighted to return to Meadowhead for this year’s GCSE Presentation Evening where he spoke about creativity, ambition and leadership. He shared some behind the scenes stories from a career in TV, and explained his thoughts on how best to build on the wide range of skills learned at school to further advance careers for an exciting and rewarding future.
