As part of marking Holocaust Memorial Day 2023, we had the privilege of hosting a Holocaust Survivor, Ruth Schwiening, her husband, and a team from The National Holocaust Centre and Museum.

Ruth was born in Breslau (then Germany, now Wroclaw in Poland) in 1935 and came to the UK as a refugee in 1939 via the Kindertransport.

Ruth spoke to Year 9 students, Year 12 and 13 historians, and students from the 'Meadowhead Against Racism' group, and showed images of her artwork influenced by her experiences in the Holocaust.  Ruth also shared photographs of her family, and our students found the event very moving.

We are so thankful for Ruth taking the time to visit us and sharing her personal story of her family's experience of the Holocaust.
