German Work for Self-Isolating Students

Find below a list of work for students who are self-isolating to carry out.

Y7 and Y8

  • The majority of our knowledge organisers are now on the school website here: https://www.meadowhead.sheffield.sch.uk/page/?title=German&pid=683
  • Test yourself on the vocabulary (you could use Look, Cover, Write, Check).

     

  • Read through the grammar sections. Research any grammar point further if you need extra help.
  • Have a go at putting together some of your own sentences using all of the information on the page.
     
  • BBC Bitesize has some excellent resources and videos for German: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/zcj2tfr
    • You can choose any of the links under “Topics” – they’re all suitable for Y7s and Y8s.
    • The “Grammar” section and the “Everyday Language” sections are also useful for Y7 and Y8.
  • Linguascope has lots of vocabulary practice for many topics: https://www.linguascope.com (Ask your teacher for the username and password).
    • Log in, click on “Beginner”, then select the German Flag.
    • Y7s choose from any of the following topics:
      • Die Grundlagen à Die Nummern (1 – 10)
      • Die Grundlagen à Die Zehnerreihe
      • Meine Welt à Die Länder
      • Meine Familie und ich à Die Familienmitglieder
      • Meine Familie und ich à Die Charaktereigenschaften
      • Die Grundlagen à Die Farben
      • Meine Familie und ich à Meine Haustiere
      • Das tägliche Leben à Die Schulfächer
      • Das tägliche Leben à Die Uhrzeiten
    • Y8s choose from any of the following topics:

      • Meine Welt à Die Geschäfte
      • Das Essen à Frühstück
      • Das Essen à Obst
      • Das Essen à Gemüse
      • Das Essen à Snacks
    • Start with "Einführung". Write down any new vocabulary.
    • Complete any of the other activities to do with that vocab.
    • You should end with "Teste dich" to see how much you've learnt. If possible, please also print the "Arbeitsblatt" (work sheet) and fill that in.
  • Duolingo (https://www.duolingo.com) is a website and app for free language learning. Students can sign up for a free account. The app will work out ability and set improvement tasks accordingly.

 

Y9, Y10, and Y11

  • Test yourself on the vocabulary (you could use Look, Cover, Write, Check).

     

  • Read through the grammar sections. Research any grammar point further if you need extra help.
  • Read through the "Tenses" section. Have a go at writing out your own versions of the sentences in different tenses by changing certain words.
  • Have a go at writing a 90-word answer that would fit the topic you’re on.
     
  • Seneca Learning is an excellent resource for learn GCSE German course content. Follow the instructions that have been set for you ClassCharts. If you’re unable to do this, create your own (free) account: https://www.senecalearning.com and search “AQA GCSE German” to get access to the right course.

  • Quizlet (https://quizlet.com/gb/topic/languages/german) is a good, free website to practise German vocabulary. You can access course-specific content by searching the term “AQA GCSE German”.
     
  • Y11 only: Make sure that all three of your speaking booklets are complete, checked, and memorised ready for the speaking exams which start at the end of April.
     
  • Y11 only: You can access past AQA GCSE German papers – as well as those from other exam boards – at https://revisionworld.com/gcse-revision/german.

 

German Work in Case of School Closure

  • Work will be set for each class by the class teacher (or, in their absence, another member of the faculty) via ClassCharts. Please ensure you can access ClassCharts. All instructions and deadline details, along with any resources, will be assigned in this way.
     
  • Our intention is that each class teacher will set work on a weekly basis.
