Year 8 AW1 Information

Drama and

Music

You will be assessed on the unit you are currently studying. The assessment will take place in your Drama / Music lesson.

 

English

The History of the English Language (45 minutes)

Section A: A quiz on content (10mins) (vocabulary, Invaders, Innovators and Inventors)

Section B: A piece of opinion writing in response to a statement (35mins)

 

Ethics

A 40-minute assessment covering The Equality Act and Inclusivity topic

Section A – 10 keyword/knowledge questions

Section B- You will be asked to apply your knowledge to 2 scenarios

 

French

A reading and grammar test mainly based on My Town and Paris topics.

There will be some retrieval of Y7 knowledge included Assessment will last 30 mins

Students should use knowledge organisers to revise.

 

Geography

A 30-minute assessment covering 'what is happening above our heads?' (1st unit in Y8) and 'is the earth running out of resources?' (2nd unit in Y8). Knowledge organisers are available on the school website if you need them. The assessment will include knowledge, understanding and skills questions. There will be a combination of closed and open response

questions on the paper.

 

German

A reading and grammar test mainly based on My Town and Berlin topics.

There will be some retrieval of Y7 knowledge included Assessment will last 30 mins

Students should use knowledge organisers to revise.

 

 

 

History

A 50-minute assessment covering work studied since the beginning of Y8 (Tudor Religious Rollercoaster and Challenging the power of the monarchy). Use the Knowledge Organisers for each topic and your notes in your exercise books. Four sections:

  • 20 multiple choice knowledge questions
  • 10 key word gap fill
  • 10 events to complete a timeline
  • Describe questions
  • Explain questions

Maths

A 50-minute assessment covering topics studied since the beginning of Y8. Non-calculator.60 marks

Science

40 min assessment on:

Digestion, Breathing, Types of forces, Thermal energy, elements, Periodic table

 

Spanish

A reading and grammar test mainly based on My Town and Barcelona topics.

There will be some retrieval of Y7 knowledge included Assessment will last 30 mins

Students should use knowledge organisers to revise.

English

A quiz on the context of Macbeth and quotes about MACBETH and LADY MACBETH.

An extended writing question on either Macbeth or Lady Macbeth based on an extract.

Maths

(2 papers)

Paper 1: Essentials Test (1 hour)

Paper 2: Fluency Test (30 minutes)

Content is all topics covered this year so far.

A 45 – minute written assessment paper covering: Respiration

Photosynthesis Types of reaction Chemical energy Electrical energy

Sounds waves

 

History

20 knowledge questions (multiple choice)

10 key words gap fill 10 dates for chronology

4 knowledge questions – 4 marks each, extended answers

Topics are: Industrial Revolution in Sheffield and the British Empire

 

 

 

Geography

Section A – Short answer questions to test understanding of key vocabulary from current and previous units, including year 7.

Section B – Short answer questions closed and open questions testing knowledge of weather and climate, human use of resources, Africa and coastal processes, landforms and management. There will be one longer extended writing question on each topic and one skills question (graph/map/photograph/numeracy)

Unit 1 – What is happening above our heads? Weather and Climate Unit 2 – Is human consumption of resources sustainable?

Unit 3 – Does Africa have it all?

Unit 4 – What happens where the land meets the sea? Coastal landforms and management

 

French

A written assessment which will test students’ knowledge of spelling, grammar and vocabulary, translation into French and an extended writing task in French. Topics covered are Town (HT1), Paris (HT2) and Holidays (HT3 and HT4)

 

German

A written assessment which will test students’ knowledge of spelling, grammar and vocabulary, translation into German and an extended writing task in German. Topics covered are Town (HT1), Berlin (HT2) and Holidays (HT3 and HT4)

 

Spanish

A written assessment which will test students’ knowledge of spelling, grammar and vocabulary, translation into Spanish and an extended writing task in Spanish. Topics covered are Town (HT1), Barcelona (HT2) and Holidays (HT3 and HT4)
