Meadowhead GCSE students achieve best GCSE results in the history of the school!
Meadowhead Y11 students collected their exam results in the Rosling on Thursday 22nd August, and there were so many incredible results and stories of success. For example, twenty-three students received results which included at least five 8s or 9s (equivalent to former A* grade).
For the first time in a “normal” academic year, over half of the school’s Y11 students achieved the strong pass measure (9-5 including English and maths) (equivalent to former grade B or higher) and over two-thirds achieved the standard pass measure (9-4 including English and maths).
These two measures are often used to evaluate the effectiveness of a secondary school. Results for the two “core” subjects were also the best ever: with 75% achieving 4 grade and 63% a 5 grade in English, while in Maths 73% achieved a 4 grade and 56% a 5 grade. Such success was replicated in a wide range of courses and disciplines with particularly outstanding results in subjects as diverse as history, art, physics, French, food, sports studies, and, health and social care.
The strength of these results meant that the largest ever group of new Y12 students were able to enrol at Meadowhead Sixth Form. Similarly, these results also meant a platform to secure places on vocational routes for over a hundred students at Sheffield College.
We are incredibly proud of the achievements of the Class of 2024 and wish each of them the very best for the next steps in their career. We look forward to celebrating their success at GCSE certificate evening on Wednesday 27th November.
